A warm welcome back to another school year. Teachers are back and classrooms are starting to take shape in preparation for the start of the school year tomorrow (Tuesday). We are all looking forward to seeing the school campus fill up with students and for teaching and learning to get underway for the year.
|
Tomorrow class will start at the usual time of 9am after the 8.50 bell (intermediate students start at 8.50am sharp). Please make sure that your child is at school and ready for class soon after 8.30am.
|
We have seen a rise in parents wanting to take their children to external programmes during the school day. Examples of these programmes include Mind Plus, Nature School, SPELD and others. The popularity of these programmes has given rise to several issues. The first is disruption to classes with students arriving late, leaving early and having whole days off school. The second issue is that it is hard for the school to comply with new attendance obligations.

Moving forward ALL parents wanting to send their children to external programmes during school time will need to apply in writing to me (paulc@glendowie.school.nz) each term. Each application will be reviewed on its own merits and an assessment made based on the following criteria:

The educational benefit to the student.

Any disruptions the absence will have on teaching and learning at school for both the student applying and the other students in the class.

The school's obligation to ensure that it complies with relevant government directives regarding attendance.

Mihi Whakatau
We will hold a mihi whakatau at 9am on Tuesday 10 February. All new families are welcome to join as we formally recognise and welcome new community members to our school. Parents wishing to attend please meet next to the school map at the front of the school.
