Year 2 Who We Are
Our current Unit of Inquiry, "Who we are," has been taking us on an incredible journey inside the human body! Our central idea is that living things are made up of different systems that meet their needs. So far, our young scientists have been exploring the skeletal system, the respiratory system, and the digestive system to figure out exactly how our bodies keep us moving, breathing, and growing.
To help bring our learning to life, Dr Stephen, Eleanor’s dad, visited our classroom to guide us through a wonderfully messy, hands-on demonstration of how food moves through the digestive system. We want to extend a massive thank you to him for volunteering his time and creating such an unforgettable experience for our students!
Have you ever wondered how your digestive system works after you eat? First, the food travels through the mouth, and the teeth chew it thoroughly. Saliva comes out automatically and mixes with the food. The tongue pushes it down through the oesophagus into the stomach. Next, the food travels quickly through the oesophagus. Stomach acid helps churning. After that, the food travels to the small intestine. It absorbs nutrients and water into your blood vessels. The water waste goes to the kidneys. The food waste goes through the large intestine slowly. After that, it goes out of your body. - Lawrence G, Y2
The Digestive System is part of the body that breaks down food to give us nutrients for energy. First in this adventure, the mouth helps us crush and chew the food and makes a liquid called saliva, which makes it easier to swallow. Next, the tongue rolls the food into a ball. The saliva helps us swallow faster. Next on the adventure is the smooth stomach. It slowly mixes the food into something like a smoothie. Next, your saliva drops into the stomach and mixes with it. Next is the small intestine. It squeezes and crushes all the food into a liquid. After that, it goes into the large intestine. The large intestine is shaped like a rainbow, and the food rushes through the large intestine. Now, sorry, last but not least, is the toilet! Your bottom pushes poos out of your body. That is the end stop of our adventure. - Lucia M, Y2

Year 6 Market Day
In Room 26, our highlight was the whole experience. We enjoyed having the opportunity to design, make and improve the prototypes of our products by adapting them to better fit the needs of the Year 5 buyers. However, our highlight was getting to sell our products. In our groups, we had fun creating posters and video adverts to persuade our buyers to choose our products, but we also found out that advertising in person on Market Day was just as important. Some of us used a microphone and speaker to attract buyers, others of us went up to the year 5’s and pitched our products to them. We even helped our friends sell their products too when we had sold out…and in the end, everyone sold out of their products and made profit! That outcome made all the hours, days, and weeks that we spent making and advertising our products all worth it.
In Room 25, we had many favourite parts of market day. Like creating and making the products, being part of a team, having different roles and learning to work together. Selling the products - especially selling out - was so much fun! Creating the advertisements with a logo and slogan was definitely a highlight as we got to film and create a QR code that linked to our advertisement. It was fun to compete against other “companies” who were selling the same product as we had to make our product stand out. We got some great feedback from the year 8’s on our prototypes and this helped us to create our final product. Using the spreadsheet to see how much profit we made was very interesting as we could see how well we were doing!

The Awesome Market Day Project
Market Day first excited us in Year 5 when we rushed into the hall to buy the amazing products made by the Year 6 students. At the time, we thought it was all about shopping and having fun, but we soon learned there was much more behind the scenes. In 2026, it became our turn to create products, work in teams, and prepare for the big day.
We spent weeks designing, making, fixing mistakes, and solving problems along the way. When Market Day finally arrived, the hall was packed with eager Year 5 students ready to buy.
By the end, many groups had sold out, and we learned that Market Day is really about teamwork, creativity, perseverance, and learning from challenges. Despite the challenges it was SO WORTH IT! - Calla H & Jessica R, Y6
