From the Principal

Kia ora tatou katoa,
It was great to have our students out and running at several cross country events recently. The experiences were quite different. For those running at Bay Suburbs and Eastern Zone the weather was pretty rough and for many it was home to a hot bath and some warm clothing straight afterwards. Things were much nicer on Wednesday for the Year 1 and 2 cross country where our little people were bathed in sunshine while running around Glendowie Park. Well done to everyone who has competed in the last two weeks.

Year 8 Exhibition
This year again witnessed some incredible Exhibition projects among our Year 8s. For anyone who had the chance to stop by and talk to some of our students you will have seen some incredible ideas and some very well planned projects.

2024 Intermediate Parent Night (All welcome)
For parents of intermediate students in 2024 there will be a parent meeting at 5.30pm on Tuesday 12th September in the Mini-hall. At the meeting we will discuss some of the key events on the Year 7 and 8 calendar for 2024. We will also be discussing a significant shift in our approach to delivering the IB Curriculum. In 2024 we plan to roll out the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), which is the IB programme specifically designed for Year 7 and 8.

As the items that we will discuss at this meeting will be of relevance to those students who will be in intermediate in the next few years, we are opening this event up to all parents who would like to come and hear about the future of our intermediate programme.

New Entrant Class
A big welcome to our newest students who started in room 3 this week, with their teacher Mrs Rachael Hanna. Mrs Hanna will teach the class for the rest of this term until Mrs Hammond returns from maternity leave in Term 4.

Enrolments and Leavers
If you have a child who is due to start at our school in 2024, please could you ensure you've submitted an enrolment form to the school office. Remember that if you are out of zone, you MUST submit an application for the ballot before applications close on 11th October.
If you have a child who won't be returning to our school in 2024, please could you send an email to the office to let us know. This really helps with our planning of teaching staff for classes for next year, and also to know how many places are available in the upcoming ballot.

Student Led Conferences
One of the real highlights on our school calendar is student led conferences. These will be taking place next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Student-led conferences are a way of your child sharing their learning with you. In the process there is a particular focus on ensuring that students have some choice over what is shared. I look forward to seeing many of you next week.

Nga mihi nui!
Paul Crowhurst l Principal

Board Meeting

The next Board meeting will be Tuesday 12 September at 7pm in the Boardroom. Anyone is welcome to attend and a copy of the agenda is available from the school office after 3pm on the Friday before.

Year 4 Assembly

Last Wednesday the Year 4s had our assembly and we showed the school how we can express ourselves through dance and movement. We practised a lot so we could have a great assembly and be proud of ourselves and our learning. Our highlights were the little apple dance and the umbrella dance. We hope that everybody enjoyed our wonderful assembly and our beautiful face painting. By Isabella and Malika
Thank you to Ana Butterworth ( one of our Year 4 parents who did the very professional face painting for all the children.

Yr 7/8 Eastern Zone Cross Country

It was the day of the cross country, and everyone was nervous, excited or a combination of both. We walked to Churchill Park, through freezing rain. After the course was quickly explained to us, the Year 7 girls lined up on the start line. “On your marks, get set, go!” Everyone started running, churning up mud. Everyone was covered in mud, and rain was pouring down, but we kept going, until we were out of the mud and racing up a small hill. We finished our lap of the gully, and kept running, everyone screaming and cheering us on. Next was two laps of the park. We ran along gravel and concrete, happy that there was no more mud. After crossing the finish line, we discovered what place we came, and headed back to the gazebo to rinse some of the mud off our legs. Most of the Year 7 girls went back to their home or school, so they didn’t have to wait for the Year 7 boys, the Year 8 girls and the Year 8 boys to finish their race in the freezing cold.
Well done to Tobias C who was 3rd in the Yr 7 Boys race and has qualified for the Auckland Champs!

Bays Suburbs Cross Country Year 4 - 6

On Monday 21 August, eight runners from year 4 to 6 went to Churchill Park to run at the Bay Suburbs Cross Country. Some people did exceptionally well, and came in 1st place, but we all tried our hardest to get the best results we could. A special congratulations to Ash (Year 4), Amelie (Year 5), and Zach (Year 6), who placed first in their races. Well done to the Year 4 Boys team for coming 3rd overall, Year 5 Girls team for coming 2nd overall and the Year 6 Girls team for coming 1st overall! It was a cold and rainy day and some of us had to go home because of how muddy we were! But of course Auckland weather kicked in and after everyone finished, it became nice and sunny and there was not a single cloud in the sky.
