Glendowie School

Our students will become confident, compassionate, life-long learners, encouraged to achieve their full potential by actively participating in our country and as citizens of the world.

Principal's Welcome

Welcome / Kia ora

On behalf of our community, I am pleased to welcome you and hope that your exploration of our website will capture the vibrant nature of our school. I also hope you will glean some understanding of how our school is a special place for our students, their teachers, and the wider community.

Glendowie School is situated in an absolutely beautiful location, overlooking the Tamaki Estuary in Auckland’s Eastern Suburbs. Many of our students walk or ride to school from the surrounding neighbourhood, which is a wonderful place to grow up with large parks and quiet streets.

Glendowie Primary welcomes International Students to our school. We know you will have a wonderful experience with small class numbers, wonderful resources, and caring teachers and students.

Enrolment Information

Glendowie School will provide a full primary school education (Years 1-8) for the children of the local community. The enrolment scheme defines this community by designating a geographical zone and for the children living in this zone, this school is deemed to be reasonably convenient.

Matariki Celebration – School starts 7am, 27th June

Wed Jun 26 04:12pm

We will be celebrating Matariki – the Maori new year. School will start at the earlier time of 7am and finish at 1pm. Please carefully note the following:

Students will head directly to the astroturf before 7am. Parents are welcome.
At the astroturf there will be a short assembly to acknowledge and celebrate Matariki. With a bit of luck we will get to see the stars and then watch the sun rise.
Following the assembly we will return to class and eat breakfast in class. Please send your child with a suitable breakfast in their lunch box or other container. Considerable thought was given to the idea of having a shared meal in class, but as it is our first year we have decided that this might be a bit too difficult logistically. We’ll consider this idea for future years.
A normal dismissal will take place at the earlier time of 1pm, following a lunch break.
Enjoy the day off on Friday!

Mon May 27 09:02pm

Learn about the International Baccalaureate programme that is taught at at Glendowie School in Years 0 – 6.

We will clarify some of the terminology that your students use in the classroom and unpack the attributes of an ‘internationally minded’ student. We will explain how a unit of inquiry is planned with concepts and a central idea to guide us. We will also demonstrate how skills, e.g. research and social skills, are incorporated as part of our teaching programme.

Note: the presentation will follow a similar format to previous years.

Hope to see you there.
